Feb 14th 2007
There is a correction to the Cost of Provincials. We have just been informed that the entry fee cost for Provincials this year has been increased by $10. It will now cost $45 per competitor for the trip. Please make sure to Pay Sensei Rob or Sempai Angie this fee by the end of Feb. If you are planning on traveling to Provincials in the Club vehicles please make sure to sign up with S.Rob/Sempai Angie as soon as possible so the appropriate travel plans can be made. There is only so much room in each vehicle.
Jan.29th 2007
It's time to get ready for our Annual Trip to Calgary for the ISKF Provincial Championships. The trip will cost $35 per competitor and $15 per Chaperone/Parent. This year the Club will be not be using the Rec Council 15 pac Van, instead we will be using Two Minivans. This will make space very precious. Due to very limited space we will be allowing only one parent/guardian to accompany their children (for example if you have two/more children competing we still can only allow one parent chaperone, not one parent per child). We are also asking all members traveling in the Minivans to bring only one gym bag, one sleeping bag/pillow, and one Air mattress/cot (NO FOAM MATTRESSES). This is only a two day trip. Please pack lite, only bringing that absolute necessary Items.
As always we will be staying Friday and Saturday night at Sensei Jones's Dojo. Members/Families and welcome to travel in there own Vehicles and stay at the Dojo as well. If you are traveling in your own Vehicle you are welcome to bring as many family members as you wish. It is only members traveling in the Club vans that we will require to limit to one parent/guardian.
Space is limited so for those members that wish to travel in the Club Vans you must reply To Sempai Angie or Sensei Rob before the end of February. Sempai Angie will hand out/discuss more detailed information as the Date for Provincials approaches
If you have any Questions or Concerns please see Sensei Rob or Sempai Angie before or After Classes.
The Clubs Spring Grading will be held Friday May 4th and Saturday May 5th. More details on this event will be available as the date approaches.
*** Reminder that Clubs name has Changed to "Northern Alberta Shotokan Karate". Please make sure to get your Dues into to Sensei Rob and Sempai Angie on time.
Jan.15th 2007
CLUB NAME CHANGE!!! As you all know due to the demolition of The current Mackenzie River school at the end of this school year and the lack of alternative adequate space for the club on this base we will be moving downtown to a new location this summer (2007). Due to the move off base we must rename the club. We will no longer be known as the "4 Wing Shotokan Karate club". The new name for the Club is "NORTHERN ALBERTA SHOTOKAN KARATE". Your club patches will stay the same as we are still members of the ISKF (International Shotokan Karate Federation). Please remember that all dues are to be paid be the fifteenth of every month. All cheques can now be made to N.A.S.K (Northern Alberta Shotokan Karate).
Photo's will be taken on Wed. Feb 7th 2007 starting at 6 pm. All members must attend this 6pm class in order to be in the group Photo and to get individual shots taken. Even if you are not interested in purchasing a Photo Package please attend this 6 pm sitting so that we can have all out Club members in the Group Photo. For those club members that attend as a family you may choose to have the whole Family in the "Individual" shot if you like. It's your picture, it's up to you. For picture day please make sure your Gi is clean and neat. Your Hair may done anyway you want. It is not necessary for those with long hair to have it up for the Photo's. A list of Photo package prices and an order form will be handed out over the next few classes. Please bring your money and order form with you on Photo Day.

I'm sure Sensei Rob is looking forward to see what you all remember after this long Holiday and to helping you Work off any extra holiday pounds. Good Luck Everyone!
We have a new email address for the club. In the past all emails from the website came through my home email and I acted as "Club internet Receptionist" and forwarded out all the emails to the parties concerned. With our new email address Sensei Rob and the Sempai's will all have access to the Same email account and it will eliminate the need for my "receptionist" duties. Please add the following address to your address book as the main email contact for the club: northernalbertashotokan@hotmail.com
We can still be contact through the contact links here on the website as well. These emails also go to the new address.

We will be discussing important information about the club, including info about the Clubs Move when Mackenzie River School Shuts down. Oct.26th 2006
It's great to see all our new member's doing so well with their training. It is also nice to have all our old members back to training and doing their best to help out their new Dojo mates. You're all working hard and your doing great! Keep up the good work.
Now that everyone has their Gi's it will be great to see you all out of street clothes and into your Uniforms. Remember that the Gi's seem very Large when you first put them one right out of the bag. They are 100% cotton and will shrink significantly. If your Gi is large wash it in hot water and then throw it in the Dryer on high for a full hour. Soak your Gi again and then Dry it again. This may need to be done 3 - 5 times to get it to the right size. DO NOT HEM YOUR SLEEVES OR PANTS UNTIL YOU HAVE WASHED/DRIED AT LEAST TIMES!! After washing/drying 4 times your Gi will have done the majority of it's shrinking. That being said the opposite is true If your Gi fit you just right out of the bag. In this case DO NOT Dry it in the Dryer. Wash and Hang to dry. Though it will still shrink due to the nature of Cotton this should keep the amount to a minimum. Remember that the Gi is meant to fit loose to give you complete range of motion in all you moves. This is a style fit that most of us are not used to wearing so it may seem uncomfortable/to baggy at first but you will get used to it and come to understand the value of the loose fit as your training progresses. Over the next few weeks your Senior Dojo Mates will help you learn how to properly tie your Gi and your Belt. It is up to you how often you wash your Gi. It is not necessary to wash you Gi after ever class. Most of our Senior Members will tell you that they only wash their Gi's once a week. After Mondays class we hang our Gi's up, give them a spray of fabreeze , let them Dry/air out over night, and then they are ready for Wednesdays class. It is a personal choice. DO NOT WASH YOUR BELTS. If you have any Problems or Questions please feel free to ask.
We will be posting a list of upcoming important dates on the Bulletin/stretching board next week. Please be sure to check it when you come into class.
***** Just a reminder that there is ABSOLUTELY NO SMOKING in the school !!! Someone was smoking in the lobby of the school while waiting for the Children's class to end on Wednesday night. This cannot and will not be tolerated. It has been illegal to smoke in a public school for many, many years. It's is also illegal to smoke in any DND building. If you must smoke please do it outside the school building away from the gym doors.
The Gym will be unavailable to us this Sunday October 29th for Practice/Extra Training. That class will be back to normal for next weekend. Keep up the great training and we will see you all at classes.
Sept. 22nd 2006
There have been several items left in the gym at the end of classes over the last week. Please make sure that you take all your belongings home after your classes. The school's Janitorial staff is very good about storing the more valuable items they find in the office. Clothing is usually left on the stage for few days and then eventually added to the schools Lost and found boxes. If you have left any items in the gym please contact me as soon as you realize they are missing and we will contact the school and try to find them. All you personal items are you personal responsibility and the club is not responsible for lost items. That being said we do want to do what we can to help you retrieve any lost items. If you need to take off rings, watches, jewelry, cell phones, car keys, etc, and no safe place to keep them You may leave them on the stage next to Sempai Angie and Sempai Dana's books, where they will be less likely to be accidentally kicked or swept away by the movement of class members at the back of the gym between classes. Any Valuables left on the stage may be more Quickly noticed by Club members during clean-up at the end of the last class.
I currently have :
one pair of white women's ankle socks
one blue water bottle
one blue watch
one Game boy travel case including a game cartridge and adaptor cord.
If any of these items belong to contact me and I will return them to you at Mondays class.
Sept. 17th 2009
Welcome to all the new people that came out to the clubs Orientation Classes on Wednesday night and welcome back to all our Regular Members. It was great to see so many new people out to see what we do. It was a very busy night and I hope you all had a good time. Now that everyone has been introduced a little bit to how our club runs we are looking forward to getting you all right into training with us. Some of the parents of our younger new ones might have been a little surprised by the level of discipline that we teach our young members. Remember that this is a Karate Dojo. The theory of Discipline and what is expected of our students behavior wise is inherently different from what is expected of them in Western Public schools. As well as body awareness, Balance, and physical activity Part of what we are trying to teach our students is self esteem, confidence, and Respect for themselves and the people around them. Karate is a fighting Art and with that comes greater responsibility for our own actions. We are not here to teach your kids how to be better Bullies we are trying to teach our students how to be better people Mind , body, and spirit.
If you missed our Orientation classes no worries, New people are welcome to come and join our classes anytime throughout the year. We are looking forward to seeing you all for regular classes starting Monday Sept. 18th.
